Etiquette - a fancy word for simple kindness
— Elsa Maxwell

We are deeply passionate about cultivating a space that is open, accessible, and comfortable for all.

In the spirit of compassion and community, we invite everyone to observe a few guidelines to maintain the serenity of our space.

  • Please, no early exits from the practice rooms.

    • We respectfully request that all practitioners remain in the practice room until the teacher has released the class. On those occasions when it is necessary for you the leave before the end of the scheduled class time, please consult with the teacher or Full Circle staff to make arrangements before class begins. This prior notice will allow us coordinate your early departure in such a way as to minimize disruptions. Please be courteous towards your fellow practitioners when exiting by moving swiftly and softly.

  • Please come clean

    • As the nature of a hot yoga practice intensifies scents and odors, we ask that all are mindful of personal hygiene as well as the application of perfumes or strongly scented creams and lotions prior to practice. As our bodies warm and perspire during practice, aromas can often intensify, permeating the air and triggering sensitivities in others. Please come clean and refrain from applying fragranced products until after class. Please also note that the practice rooms are “no-shoe” zones. We attempt to maintain the entire studio space in a manner suitable for barefoot travel, so please check your shoes for mud, dirt, or other environmental cast-off and take a quick swipe on the mats provided at the studio entrance as you enter the space.

  • Class transitions and traffic

    • Our community is full of fun and friendship, so a conversation before and after is invited and appreciated! When congregating in the hallways and in the cubby area, please be mindful of any classes underway. General noise and chatter need to be kept to a minimum. We have two practice rooms with staggered class times meaning while one room is in transition, the other may be in session. Help us honor the time and practice of all or our community members by limiting extended interactions to the lobby area, or outside the studio. And please remember to maintain a mindful volume;-)

  • Incorporating technology

    • We know firsthand how integrated personal devices are in daily life, and why wouldn’t they be? Our phones and devices put in serious work to support us throughout our day, and for the fitness-lovers of the world, they work twice as hard as they track our heart rates, calorie burns, and analyze our lung efficiency, and we certainly want you to be able to do that, but with a few courtesies in place. If you choose to wear or utilize fitness devices while in class, they MUST be in a restricted mode such as airplane mode, theatre mode, or otherwise silenced. We are all practicing to experience the PRESENT, so join us there by setting aside notifications and constant contact for a while.

  • Hydrate. Hydrate. Hydrate.  It’s always good practice to stay hydrated.  But when you’re preparing to take a hot yoga class or a vigorous Pilates class, it’s a must!  Begin hydrating the day before class and continue drinking throughout the day. Drinking water - either plain or electrolyte infused - is the best approach.  Sodas, energy drinks, coffee, etc., contain elements that can actually have the opposite effect on your body by leaching hydration from your cells. It’s best to keep it simple and build hydration into your daily routine.  Eat a little something, but don’t overdo it.  If you’re coming to class first thing in the morning, maybe grab a hand full of trail mix or a slice of toast – just enough to ease that “empty” feeling in your belly.  Exerting yourself on a full stomach can lead to nausea and GI discomfort. Establishing a nutrition routine by feeding your body quality whole foods throughout each day is the best practice.

  • Yes. Yes. And YES!  Whatever your current physical state, you’re in the perfect place to begin your practice.  The beauty of yoga and Pilates is that they meet you where you are. No matter your fitness level, your age, your size, or your ability, yoga is for everybody and every body.  As long as you and your physician agree that you have no medical restrictions, you’re good to go! What are you waiting for? There’s no time like the present. Get started today!

  • Absolutely not.  Sanskrit is an ancient language and is considered the language of yoga.  It is a beautiful vibrational language and you will hear it frequently in the studio.  But all FCYP classes are taught in English. When Sanskrit words are spoken, they are woven through the class in a gentle, accessible way.  Whenever a cue is offered in Sanskrit, it will be immediately followed by the English translation.

  • Simply put: whatever is comfortable.  It’s helpful to consider which class you’ll be taking.  What feels right for a Restorative or Chair class may not feel so comfy in a FIR Hot Vinyasa or a Pilates Fusion class.  If you’d like specific guidance, you can always refer to the “Class Description” for more detailed information on the class(es) in which you’re interested.  But rest assured, it’s not a fashion show – no need grab the latest gear. Those old leggings or gym shorts from 2015 with your favorite faded t-shirt will do nicely.  Side note: In an effort to respect the sensitivities of all of our members and fellow students, we ask that perfumes and other fragrances be kept to a minimum.

  • Not much.  Your mat, your water, and your intention are all you need to bring to any of our classes.  FCYP provides complimentary mat towels, face towels, and bath towels. We also have a refrigerated filtered bottle filling station to refill your water.   As for props, we provide all the props you need for your practice including blocks, blankets, bolsters, straps, hand weights, resistance bands, and more. Please note all studio equipment including towels and studio facilities are thoroughly sanitized after every class.  Additionally, the studio stocks everything from hair ties to cotton swabs to shampoo & conditioner - even hair dryers. If you forgot it, we probably have it. And if you don’t see it, just ask.  We’ll get it.

  • It’s always best to bring your own mat.  It doesn’t need to be anything fancy and definitely not pricey.  You can pick up a mat at Target, Marshall’s, Ross, Amazon, etc., often for less than $25.  If you happen to forget yours, we’ve got you covered. FCYP rents Manduka Studio Gear mats for $3 per day.

  • Cubbies.  Full Circle provides cubby space for you to store your personal items during practice.  If you need to bring hanging items to change into after class, we provide closet space to keep your items wrinkle-free.  We recommend keeping valuables stored in your locked vehicle.

  • In a word, no.  We know life gets hectic and it can be challenging to make it to class on time. But we ask that you honor your commitment to yourself by allowing plenty of time to get to the studio, store your belongings, set up, and center before the scheduled class time.  A good rule of thumb is to arrive at least 10 minutes prior to the start of class. So if class starts at 9:30, plan to arrive no later than 9:20. If you are walking in the door at 9:30, you’re late. But not to worry, we have arranged the schedule so that you’ll often be able to hop into a class starting soon after.

  • Again, no.  This is a tough one for many of us.  But the fact that it can feel so uncomfortable to separate from our technology is the very reason it’s important to do so.  Besides being a potential distraction for you, it can be disruptive to others. Therefore we ask that you please leave your phone locked in your vehicle.  If you choose to bring your phone into the studio, please SET YOUR DEVICE TO THEATER MODE and silence it, turning off all ALARMS and ALERTS, before storing it in your cubby with your belongings. If you wear a wrist device (AppleWatch, Samsung Gear, FitBit, etc.) we ask that you program it to THEATER MODE and make sure that it is set to SILENT prior to entering the practice room.  We do understand that there are certain times when the whole “phone separation” thing creates an obstacle to your practice. Expected calls from doctors, deliveries, your child’s school, etc., can be tricky to navigate. We never want you to feel you need to make a choice between missing an important call and skipping your practice.  On those occasions when you’re expecting an important call, please leave your phone at the front desk with a FCYP Team Member and we’ll coordinate with the teacher to notify you in the event you receive the call during class.

If it still  feels overwhelming or confusing, never fear.  We’re here to answer all of your questions and partner with you in building your practice.  Give us a call, an email, or come by the studio. We’re here for YOU.☺
